Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the abstract submission site of the 2021 Virtual Academic Surgical Congress!

The 16th Annual Academic Surgical Congress (ASC) will take place virtually in early February. The ASC, which is jointly sponsored by the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) and the Society of University Surgeons (SUS), will begin accepting electronic abstract submissions July 6, 2020. We will accept abstract submissions until the deadline on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 11:59pm ET (this deadline will not be extended. Abstract submissions can include topics in education, clinical outcomes, health services research, as well as basic and translational science.

Both the AAS and SUS are excited to continue our mission of providing an opportunity for continued academic development, scholarship, and mentorship. The program committee and leadership of both societies are working hard to make our first-ever virtual meeting exciting, impactful, and reflective of the issues confronting all of us.

The program committees are determining the details of our virtual program and capacity for abstract presentation. Our plan is to showcase the top submitted abstracts, dedicated to basic science, clinical/outcomes, and education, while considering an abbreviated program. Our hope is to balance opportunities for our members to present their work while making the virtual format interactive and engaging.

Given the limitations of the format, we will limit the number of abstracts that an individual may present to ONE. There is no limit to the number of abstracts that may be submitted, and if more than one abstract is accepted the highest scoring abstract will be selected for presentation. Please note that there is no limit on the number of abstracts an individual may be listed as an author on. Meeting leadership is continuing to have conversations about research awards and associated manuscript submissions.

With very best wishes,

Carrie Lubitz, MD, MPH
AAS Recorder & Program Committee Chair

Melanie Morris, MD
SUS Publications Chair
